Success Stories: Angola

On June 4th, the Uvandje project was launched. The project is an initiative of the University Mandume Ya Ndemufayo, in short collaboration with the environmental node of ASA-Huíla, an NGO based in Lubnago, Huíla province. The project funded by US Forest Services aims to promote the reproduction of native seeds for reforestation programmes in Angola. The project launch was attended by government representatives, Academic staff, NGOs and other interested persons. The opening ceremony was conducted by the Rector, Professor Sebastião António, followed by intervention of ASA-Huíla General Secretary, Mr. Valdemar Ribeiro. An overview of the project structure was presented by Francisco Maiato, a project coordinator, followed by Mrs Miriam Simão, who conducted experiments with two native species and Mr. Ismael Tomás who gave an overview of his project in Caconda municipality, one of the project implementation project. The activity was animated by Mr. Abílio Lupenha, a local lyric musician.
