Celebration of Fascination of Plants Day 2021 at Navsari Agricultural University, Gujarat, India

An international online guest lecture was organized on 21st June 2021 to celebrate the fascinating life of plants at Navsari Agricultural University. This event was organized under the World Bank sponsored National Agricultural Higher Education Project, CAAST component implemented by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Government of India, at Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari. Internationally renowned Professor Daniel A. Chamovitz, President, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Israel was the eminent speaker. He is well known for his world-famous book “What a plant knows?” which has already been translated in eighteen languages across the globe. The guest lecture was enthusiastically enjoyed by 200 participants from different universities and institutes of India. Professor Chamovitz spoke about the similarities between the human and the plant world. He further elaborated on how plants interact with the nature around them with the help of sensation. He emphasized on how the understanding of plant senses mechanism could help to ameliorate challenges of crop production under climatic vagaries. Professor Mary William, Featured Editor, The Plant Cell also graced the event with her presence. This guest lecture was chaired by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of Navsari Agricultural University, Dr. Z. P. Patel. Also present on this occasion were the Director of Research and Dean of Postgraduate Studies, Dr. S. R. Chaudhary and Dr. T. R. Ahlawat, PI and Nodal Officer, NAHEP-CAAST Sub-Project. The event was moderated and organized by Dr. Kirti Bardhan.
