Open Meadows Day in the Sita and Pededze Floodplains

The Latvian Fund for Nature and farmer Jurijs Prokofjevs invite you to the Flavours of the Meadow 🌸—a unique day celebrating natural meadows, local farming, and biodiversity.
As part of the Open Meadows Days, visitors are invited to discover farms that protect and restore Latvia’s precious natural meadows, explore these extraordinary landscapes in full summer bloom, and learn how traditional land management helps conserve one of the country’s richest ecosystems.
The day begins with coffee at 10:30, followed by a guided session from 11:00–12:00, where farmer Jurijs Prokofjevs and Latvian Fund for Nature grassland experts Baiba Strazdiņa and Zane Līko will share practical insights into meadow restoration, biodiversity, and sustainable management.
Natural meadows are among Latvia’s most species-rich habitats, supporting an incredible diversity of plants, insects, birds, and other wildlife. Their future depends on thoughtful, active management, and this event offers a wonderful opportunity to see that work in action.
