We suppose that many times during forest walks you have watched flowering undergrowth plants, as well as trees and shrubs, but you did not know what species they are ?? hm hm snowdrop? snowdrop? snowstorm? or maybe an anemone?
We have good news for everyone interested in the flora of the Lubaczów Forest District (list of plants in our area). As part of the next edition of the international action “Fascinating Plant Day”, from 10 to 14 May, we will tag all plants, photos of which you will send us on Facebook.
There are only two conditions for uploading photos:
– they are to present plants growing within the range of the Lubaczów Forestry Inspectorate, in the forest, in the meadow, in the wetlands, herbaceous plants, trees, shrubs – you have full freedom here (if you discover a species that we have not yet noticed, we will ask for the location)
– must show wild-growing species (ask grandma for species from home gardens)
In the period from 10 to 14 May, we also bought for you access to the full version of the Atlas of Plants, www.atlas-roslin.pl. Thanks to that, you will not be able to see the exact characteristics and description of the species we have marked. Login: nllubaczow, password: kims (case sensitive).
So we invite you for outdoor walks and we are waiting for photos!

What is more beautiful than trees, Polish trees. We have used the wealth of the forest’s gifts for centuries, it was a breadwinner for simple people, but also an inspiration for great poets. The forest at any time of the year delights with the power of majestic trees, the delicacy of young leaves, or the unusual surface of the bark. But do we know the forest around us, we know the names of the species we meet in it, we know how to use them, check what you already know, you will surely find out more. I invite you to take a walk in the virtual forest that stretches from the Baltic Sea to the Tatra Mountains.

Plant fungal pathogens are one of the most serious problems of the 21st century. They cause large losses in crops, both in fields and in greenhouses, and in forestry. Currently, more and more attention is focused on the sustainable management of plant cultivation, and therefore the aim is to limit the use of pesticides, including fungicides, through the use of biological methods of plant protection. Actinomycetes, as microorganisms that produce about 80% of metabolites of natural origin, are a potential source of antifungal substances that can be used in agriculture and forestry.
The lecture will present the problem of fungal phytopathogens and the plant diseases they cause. Participants will be introduced to the methods of conducting research on the search for natural plant protection products.

The large growing consumption of chemical fertilizers are causing negative environmental effects. To combat this problem biofertilizers can be a good alternative. Biofertilizer contains living micro-organisms (Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria) which, when applied to seeds, plant surfaces, or soil, colonize the rhizosphere or the interior of the plant and promotes growth by increasing the supply or availability of primary nutrients to the host plant.
The students will be learning the following interesting facts about PGPR:
1) The world of PGPR and their symbiotic relationship with plants through animated pictures.
2) How they can help to mitigate the use of chemical fertilizers and its role in sustainable agriculture.
3) Information about the genetic makeup and genetic engineering of PGPR through cartoon images.
4) Future scope and research endeavours.
5) Five minutes of interactive session with students.

Energy drinks are usually carbonated soft drinks with stimulant properties. They contain a large dose of caffeine, guarana or taurine, which are supposed to reduce fatigue, improve well-being and the body’s efficiency. The prospect of a quick injection of energy can be tempting, so these drinks are very popular, which is even worse among young people and even children. It turns out, however, that there are natural and fully healthy equivalents of energy drinks, such as coconut water, birch sap or aloe vera drink. We will look at their compositions and try to answer the question whether they can be a replacement for indisputably harmful energy producers.

Old trees impress people. We respect nature, which manifests its greatness through long-lived plants. We often associate age with passing and losing vigor. Nothing could be more wrong. Old trees are teeming with life. They are inhabited by a multitude of arthropods whose interactions can amaze even the most experienced naturalists. Are the chitinous roommates nice and understanding to each other, or maybe they get along like neighbors from an old Polish comedy? The easiest way to find out is watching the film by Mr. (i) Arthropod.

Strychnine, morphine, cyanide – these are just some of the poisons that can be found in Agatha Christie’s novels. The writer owed her knowledge in the field of pharmacology and toxicology to work in a hospital pharmacy during both world wars. Poisons of plant origin occupy a special place in her work. So let’s take a look at the pharmacy herbarium and get to know the plants that became the tool of imaginative crimes, tirelessly hunted down by Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot.

Secrets are everywhere, but who would look for them in the innocent ingredient of many smoothies? The characteristic feature of spinach is that it hides its unknown face under an innocent green coating of the main photosynthetic pigment – chlorophyll. That is why we will go together to look for the fat in one of the vegetables that is the bane of childhood – spinach. To this end, we will check the lipid membranes of chloroplasts, without which the photosynthesis process would not be possible, we will comb many dyes bound in these membranes and we will try to recognize the lipid face of green vegetables. We invite you to our workshop, which will show you a colorful journey through obtaining and separating lipids.

People convinced of their safety inside the rooms often expose themselves to much more dangerous pollution than those from the outside. The level of air pollution in rooms is determined by: the sources of pollution in them, types of substances present in them and their concentration, activities taking place in them, as well as the external environment. Indoor air quality determines human health and well-being, polluted air can lead to various health problems. The answer is phytoremediation, a method of removing or detoxifying inorganic and organic pollutants, as well as suspended dusts using plants, which are harmful to humans and the environment.

Plants produce a number of volatile substances that have an intense, often pleasant smell for us. These substances are part of the essential oils used in phytotherapy, they are also components of perfumes and cosmetics. During the lecture we will look at these compounds from the point of view of biochemistry: we will learn about the pathways of their biosynthesis, chemical structure, biological activities and methods of obtaining them from plant material.

We all associate plants with trees, flowers and pots on window sills. What if it turns out they’re also a great place to live in? It may be a little shocking to humans, but insects (and other arthropods) have got used to it. It is also worth mentioning that our multi-legged friends are very creative when it comes to using plant material and adapting peculiar interiors to their own needs.

We invite you to lectures and live shows!!! It will be a real treat about what we as humans eat, how they eat plants, how plants eat… (some plants will not despise a bloody fly beefsteak!), and how plants are eaten in general. You can get hungry while watching our lectures 🙂 But that’s not all – after the starters, we will deal with philosophical considerations (do plants have memory?). We will walk in the garden and look for modest mosses, and at the end of the walk in our Botanical Garden, we will look at beautiful flowers 🙂
