The ERA- Net SusCrop is launching a video contest to actively involve EVERYBODY from across the world to reflect, communicate and inspire on ‘what sustainable crop production means to you?’.

The competition is open to EVERYBODY and is supposed to activate multiple groups: school children, students, scientists, farmers/farmer-groups, and any person/group of random enthusiasts, artists (film, circus, music, digital/installation art, …), architects, social media/communication workers, etc.

KEYWORDS to inspire: sustainability, resilience, agriculture, forestry, ecology, crop production, crops, plants, science, nature, climate change, the future

However, we invite any kind of video: be original, think out-of-the-box! What does sustainability in the area of crop production mean to you? How should agriculture look like in the future? Do you practice sustainability procedures in growing crops or ornamental plants in your environment (e.g. your garden or balcony)?

The objective of the event is to turn light on how imprortant are legumes plants and their use for food and feed. the otehr main message from the event is the improtance of legumes for the envirolment. The event will be ilistrated with seeds of different legumes, presentation, samples from soybean meal. Fixed material from nitrogen fixing nodules will be available. The questionary with main characteristics of legumes will be distribited and those that give correct answers will be awarded.

Agricultural University – Plovdiv took part in the celebration of May 18 – International Day of Fascination of plants. For another year the event was organized by the Student Council. All presented departments participated with stands where they showed plants and products, the subject of their research.

The Rector Prof. Dr. Hristina Yancheva thanked the Student Council for promoting this event in our country, initiated by the European Plant Science Organization (EPSO). She also welcomed the special guest – Assoc. Dr. Tsanko Gechev, Director of the Center for Plant Systems Biology and Biotechnology.

The Chairman of the Student Council Hristo Kozarov thanked the teachers and students who responded to the invitation to participate. The departments that were involved were “Plant Breeding”, “Agriculture and Herbology”, “Viticulture and Fruit Growing”, “Agroecology”, “Botany and Agrometeorology”, “Animal Sciences”, “Agricultural Mechanization”, “Horticulture”, “Agro-Agriculture”. and environmental protection “,” Land reclamation, land management and agrophysics “,” Agrochemistry and soil science “.

All of them showed Bulgarian essential oil and wheat crops, flower arrangements, eggs from different species of poultry, honey and yogurt, strawberries, cherries, wine, all produced by the Agricultural University. The Department of Mechanization exhibited a small tractor, an agricultural drone and a diagnostic system.

На 18 май е Денят на очарованието на растенията (Fascination of Plants Day, FoPD 2022) – международно събитие, организирано от учени, работещи с растения по целия свят, под шапката на Европейската организация за растителни науки (EPSO).

Целта на тази дейност е да събере колкото се може повече хора по света, очаровани от растенията и ентусиазирани относно значението на растителната наука за селското стопанство и устойчивото производство на питателна храна, както и за градинарството, горското стопанство и производството на растителни нехранителни продукти като хартия, дървен материал, химикали, енергия и фармацевтични продукти. Ролята на растенията в опазването на околната среда също е ключово послание.
