La septième édition du “Fascination of Plants Day” (FoPD 2024) sera organisée dans le monde entier, à l’initiative de l’EPSO (European Plant Science Organisation).
De zevende editie van de “Fascination of Plants Day” 2024 (FoPD 2024) zal opnieuw getrokken worden door plantenwetenschappers van over de hele wereld, onder de paraplu van de European Plant Science Organisation (EPSO).
Le but de cette manifestation est de mobiliser un maximum de personnes fascinées par les plantes et porteuses du message de l’importance de la recherche en biologie végétale pour l’agriculture et la production durable de nourriture, pour l’horticulture, la foresterie, la production d’énergie, de bois, de papier, et de molécules utiles à l’industrie chimique ou pharmaceutique. Le rôle des plantes dans la conservation de l’environnement est aussi un message clé.
Het doel van dit initiatief is om wereldwijd zoveel mogelijk mensen enthousiast te maken voor plantenen plantenwetenschap in dienst van de landbouw, de duurzame productie van voedzaam voedsel, de tuinbouw, de bosbouw en de productie van plantaardige non-food-producten zoals papier, hout, chemicaliën, energie en geneesmiddelen. Ook de rol van planten bij milieubehoud willen we mee uitdragen.

The ERA- Net SusCrop is launching a video contest to actively involve EVERYBODY from across the world to reflect, communicate and inspire on ‘what sustainable crop production means to you?’.
The competition is open to EVERYBODY and is supposed to activate multiple groups: school children, students, scientists, farmers/farmer-groups, and any person/group of random enthusiasts, artists (film, circus, music, digital/installation art, …), architects, social media/communication workers, etc.
KEYWORDS to inspire: sustainability, resilience, agriculture, forestry, ecology, crop production, crops, plants, science, nature, climate change, the future
However, we invite any kind of video: be original, think out-of-the-box! What does sustainability in the area of crop production mean to you? How should agriculture look like in the future? Do you practice sustainability procedures in growing crops or ornamental plants in your environment (e.g. your garden or balcony)?

L’Institut de Botanique et l’Observatoire du Monde des plantes ouvrent leurs portes et vous proposent de découvrir les petits et grands secrets du monde végétal ! Le public aura ainsi l’occasion de voir de nombreuses facettes de la Biologie végétale, de la recherche en laboratoire à l’exposition didactique de la biodiversité.
Au programme : expositions, rencontres avec les chercheurs, visite des infrastructures utilisées pour les cultures expérimentales de plantes et de microalgues, flânerie dans les collections botaniques vivantes des 4 coins du monde, activités ludiques pour les familles et les enfants et balades guidées dans le domaine du Sart Tilman.
Le rôle des plantes dans la protection de l’environnement constituera aussi un message clé de cette journée riche en découvertes !
Third edition of the Terra Innovation Day which will take place on May 31, 2022. A day entirely devoted to the discovery of research conducted at Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech (University of Liège, Belgium).
Numerous stands and scientists will be spread out on the Faculty site to explain to you, through a playful and original course, the smallest details of their research :
- Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), we have more than one trick up our sleeve to trap them ;
- Designing innovative cropping systems to meet tomorrow challenges: Weed management and Crop modelling ;
- Save wheat crop production from extreme climatic events in 2050 by using ecotron and soil beneficial microorganisms ;
- Climatic niche lability but growth form conservatism in the African woody flora ;
- What are the alternatives to neonicotinoids to control beet yellow viruses? ;
- Under the tall trees: how to determine which exotic tree species will become invasive in Belgian forests ? ;

The Botanical Garden of the campus of Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech illustrates the classification of flowering plants, as revisited by modern molecular systematics. Today, the grouping of species into genera, families and higher-rank taxa aims at embracing the phylogenetic pathways leading to the contemporary diversity of Angiosperms. Within the Botanical garden, this grouping is made a physical reality, with related plant families growing one next to the other. The visit proposes you a 1-hour journey to the evolutionary history of flowering plants, together with Pr. Patrick du Jardin, professor of Plant Biology on the campus of Gembloux. The Botanical Garden is next to the TERRA Research Center organizing its open TERRA DAY on the same day. Combine both visits and let you fascinated about plants!
Meise Botanic Garden celebrates biodiversity!
Throughout the weekend, we promise nature fun for everyone: from quiet recreationists to cheerful children, from early risers to thoroughbred night owls. Take part in the Bioblitz! During the BioBlitz we will search together for plants and animals, such as beetles, wild plants, bats, mushrooms, birds, moths, mosses and much more! Be surprised by a fun workshop, listen to a fascinating lecture, go on a guided tour, join in a playful children’s activity or visit our traditional market.
Nature lovers, young and old, join us on our adventure and become a real nature detective!

A range of local scientists will expose you to their research and allow you to take a look at plants from a different angle: from the microscopic level to fully developed organs (such as leaves and fruits). You will get an update on the citizen science project related to soybean in your garden. You will see how art can inform us about the evolution and domestication of plants. You will get information on genome editing. And there will be many, many more fascinating items.

Verschillende lokale wetenschappers laten je kennismaken met hun onderzoek en laten je planten vanuit een andere hoek bekijken: van microscopisch niveau tot volledig ontwikkelde organen (zoals bladeren en vruchten). U krijgt een update over het Citizen Science-project met betrekking tot soja in uw tuin. U zal zien hoe kunst ons kan informeren over de evolutie en domesticatie van planten. U krijgt informatie over genome editing. En er zullen nog veel meer fascinerende items zijn.

Dans le cadre de la sixième édition du “Fascination of Plants Day”, les chercheurs et chercheuses en biologie végétale de l’UCLouvain proposent de lever le voile sur le monde fascinant des plantes et de vous emmener en découvrir les mystères. Plusieurs activités seront proposées à Louvain-la-Neuve, au départ des serres de l’UCLouvain (sentier Croix du Sud) les 18 et 22 mai 2022 entre 14h et 17h. Au programme : visite des serres expérimentales, promenade botanique, atelier pour enfant, démonstration de microscopie et expositions en libre accès (Back to the roots : à la recherche de nos racines, L’attaque des mutants : à la découverte de la formation des fleurs, Les plantes dans nos assiettes).
