Fascination of Plants Day

The eighth international “Fascination of Plants Day” around 18 May 2026 will be launched by plant scientists across the world under the umbrella of the European Plant Science Organisation (EPSO).

The goal of this activity is to get as many people as possible around the world fascinated by plants and enthused about the importance of plant science for agriculture and sustainable production of nutritious food, as well as for horticulture, forestry and the production of plant-based non-food products such as paper, timber, chemicals, energy and pharmaceuticals. The role of plants in environmental conservation is also a key message.

Science and art came together at Sinop University.

This Bio-Art project, titled “Let the Threads Guide You,” was a collaboration between the Plant Stress Physiology Club, under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Burcu SEÇKİN DİNLER and chaired by third-year biology student Betül KEMANECİ, and the Ebru and Art Club, under the guidance of Lecturer K. Ceren DEMİRALP.

The workshop, where science and art met, depicting macroscopic and microscopic aspects on the path from the laboratory to the canvas, and incorporating numerous seed planting and ebru (marbling) activities, received great interest.

Through this event, the conditions of the world were reflected, the colors of nature were observed by artists, and interdisciplinary integration was fostered.

On 16 May 2026, the “2nd Botanic Bliss: Exploring the Wonders of Plants” event was organized by the Biology Club under the supervision of the club advisor, Research Assistant Gülay Kaya, as part of the international Fascination of Plants Day activities. Within the scope of the event, an approximately 8-kilometer nature-based field excursion was conducted along the Uncubozköy–Sivrice Hill route. The activity commenced in the Uncubozköy region and proceeded through a designated hiking trail, culminating at Sivrice Hill. During the field excursion, participants engaged in structured nature observation, including the examination of environmental features along the route. In addition, physical activity was facilitated through sustained hiking, and group-based interaction was promoted throughout the walk. The activity was designed and implemented to support experiential learning in natural environments, to enhance participants’ ecological awareness through direct observation, and to strengthen group cohesion via collaborative movement in the field.
