This workshop aims to strengthen capacities in synthetic biology through the study and application of biosensors for flavonoid detection. It combines lectures, laboratory practice, and fieldwork.
Participation format:
- The lectures are open to the general public and will be offered both in-person and virtually.
- The practical and fieldwork component has limited spots and is aimed at individuals with demonstrable experience in molecular biology and/or synthetic biology.
Certification: Will be issued only to those who attend all 3 full days of activities.
Costs: The workshop is free. However, participants coming from other cities or countries must cover their own transportation, food, and lodging expenses.
The project aims to transform cassava (Manihot esculenta), cultivated by a women-led farming community in the Ecuadorian Amazon, into value-added products such as flour and starch. The process combines accessible, low-cost processing and physicochemical analysis techniques, product labeling, and food preparation using the resulting derivatives. This initiative seeks to strengthen the community’s productive autonomy and the role of women in local value-added production.
As part of the XIII Colombian Botany Congress, the national coordinators of Fascination of Plants Day (FoPD) for Colombia, Gabriela Doria, and Ecuador, Ana Bravo-Cazar, invite participants to discover this international initiative that brings plants and plant science closer to society. Open to researchers, students, educators, and plant enthusiasts, this interactive session offers a relaxed space to share experiences, connect with colleagues, and explore creative ways to spark fascination with plants beyond the laboratory and the classroom.
This event is supported by Universidad EAFIT, the School of Agricultural, Livestock, and Environmental Sciences (ECAPMA) of UNAD, and IKIAM Regional Amazon University.
