The eighth international “Fascination of Plants Day” around 18 May 2026 will be launched by plant scientists across the world under the umbrella of the European Plant Science Organisation (EPSO).
The goal of this activity is to get as many people as possible around the world fascinated by plants and enthused about the importance of plant science for agriculture and sustainable production of nutritious food, as well as for horticulture, forestry and the production of plant-based non-food products such as paper, timber, chemicals, energy and pharmaceuticals. The role of plants in environmental conservation is also a key message.

Discovering Medicinal Plants

A group of students explored the world of medicinal plants through practical activities and an exhibition held on 26 May.
The activity encouraged students to learn about plants and their uses through hands-on work and sharing their discoveries in an exhibition.
We intend to talk about the importance of Plants in the life of communities to the students at Universities and Secondary Schools of the City of Praia. We therefore need to announce the conferences about (1) Important of Plants in the Conservation of Biodiversity and (2) Important Plants Areas (IPA) at the University of Cabo Verde and at the Abílio Duarte Secondary School and at Constantino Semedo Secondary School.
We intend to talk about the importance of Plants in the life of communities to the students at Universities and Secondary Schools of the City of Praia. We therefore need to announce the conferences about (1) Important of Plants in the Conservation of Biodiversity and (2) Important Plants Areas (IPA) at the University of Cabo Verde and at the Abílio Duarte and Constantino Semedo Secondary School. We will continue to mobilize more partners in Cape Verde to celebrate this day with brilliance. We intend to work with the students on the techniques of plant herbalization at the Secondary School.
Exploring Plants through Herbarium Activities
📍 ESAD – Escola Secundária Abílio Duarte, Cape Verde
Students at ESAD took part in activities exploring plant diversity through lectures, herbarium work and the creation of a digital herbarium.
The activities involved students from the 10th and 11th grades, combining classroom learning with practical work and digital approaches to documenting and exploring plants.
Students from class 12 CT1 explored plant diversity through a digital herbarium and an educational study visit.
The activity combined practical exploration with digital documentation, giving students an opportunity to discover, document and learn more about plants beyond the traditional classroom.
Discovering Plants through Herbarium and Insectarium

Students from the 10th and 11th grades explored plant and biodiversity through hands-on activities, including herbarium work, an insectarium, an exhibition and educational visits.
The activities offered students an opportunity to discover plant diversity and learn more about the natural world through practical observation and exploration.
