FASCINATION OF PLANTS DAY

The eighth international “Fascination of Plants Day” 2026 (FoPD 2026) will be launched by plant scientists across the world under the umbrella of the European Plant Science Organisation (EPSO).

The goal of this activity is to get as many people as possible around the world fascinated by plants and enthused about the importance of plant science for agriculture and sustainable production of nutritious food, as well as for horticulture, forestry and the production of plant-based non-food products such as paper, timber, chemicals, energy and pharmaceuticals. The role of plants in environmental conservation is also a key message.

This event is part of scientific and awareness-raising activities aimed at highlighting the role of plants in supporting and developing sustainable aquaculture systems in arid and desert regions. An interactive meeting was organized, bringing together fish farmers and individuals interested in aquaculture and aquatic plant cultivation, with the objective of exchanging experiences and discussing key challenges and opportunities in this field.

The event focused on proper preparation for the 2026 breeding season, particularly for Tilapia, while emphasizing sustainable practices that integrate plant and animal components to improve productivity and reduce costs.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of aquatic plants as a key component of these systems, as they contribute to improving water quality, recycling organic matter, and providing natural feed sources, thereby enhancing ecological balance within the ponds.

The event was characterized by its participatory nature, offering attendees the opportunity to share real-life experiences, and concluded with an emphasis on the importance of organizing similar initiatives in the future to promote knowledge exchange and plant-based solutions in this vital sector.

My First Plant is a hands-on activity designed exclusively for children as part of Fascination of Plants Day 2026 in Algeria.

This event invites children to experience the joy of planting by growing their very first plant in a simple and fun way. Each child will plant their own seedling in a small pot and learn the basics of plant care.

Beyond the practical activity, this initiative encourages environmental awareness, a love for nature, and an understanding of the importance of plants in everyday life.

Hosted in a bright and inspiring green space, the event also highlights the emotional and healing connection between children and plants, as well as the value of plants as symbols of life and growth.

We warmly welcome all children to join us and take their first step toward a greener world.
