The eighth international “Fascination of Plants Day” 2026 (FoPD 2026) will be launched by plant scientists across the world under the umbrella of the European Plant Science Organisation (EPSO).
The goal of this activity is to get as many people as possible around the world fascinated by plants and enthused about the importance of plant science for agriculture and sustainable production of nutritious food, as well as for horticulture, forestry and the production of plant-based non-food products such as paper, timber, chemicals, energy and pharmaceuticals. The role of plants in environmental conservation is also a key message.
This initiative, organized in Constantine as part of the Fascination of Plants Day, aims to highlight the importance of wild native plants through field observation and public engagement.
The focus is on documenting and raising awareness about local species such as Moraea sisyrinchium, a small but ecologically valuable Mediterranean plant.
Through guided observations, photo documentation, and educational outreach, the initiative encourages citizens—especially youth—to reconnect with their natural environment, appreciate plant biodiversity, and promote conservation practices.
This activity also contributes to citizen science by documenting plant presence in urban and peri-urban ecosystems of Constantine.

This event aims to raise awareness about the importance of plants in desert ecosystems and wetlands, particularly in arid regions such as southern Algeria. Plants play a crucial role in maintaining biodiversity, protecting soil, supporting wildlife, and helping communities adapt to climate change.
During this event, participants will discover the diversity and ecological value of desert vegetation and wetland plants through presentations, interactive discussions, and environmental awareness activities.
